Political compass edit

Hi,

I've seen your version of the political compass userbox and I like it. I have another simpler version on my userpage, could you tell me how to use it to add myself to one of the political compass related categories? Could you help me make it an advanced template like yours (requiring values and stuff).I would rather user my version as I find it moer aesthetic. Will it be possible to add "my" version to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Beliefs?

שלום Tal! It looks like you've nailed it. :-) All of the code in your draft appears to be working properly, categories and all. Furthermore, it looks much more like the Political Compass article than mine does (mine was designed to match the color scheme of my Myers-Briggs Type Indicator box). As for adding it to Wikipedia:Userboxes/Beliefs, be bold! :-) Hit the edit button and a look at how mine is situated in the table, then simply add it in the same way. Do you mean, any of the belief-based templates in Template: namespace that are slated for removal? AD/CE edit

You suggested that I contact you on your talk page regarding the common era situation. Firstly, I have also offered a solution to this dilemma, and I also disagree with the usage of CE/BCE. My solution, which was presented at several venues within Wikipedia, including the Jesus talk page and at pages to request for an alteration in policy, has failed several times. It was to use both systems everywhere on Wikipedia, except to divide their usage. The term "BC" (Before Christ) would be used along with "CE" (Common/Christian Era). Although I think disincluding "AD" (Anno Domini) is not what I would suggest, it is the only answer for a solution everyone would be able to agree with. It is also more POV than "BC". Another positive outcome of this is that "BC" and "CE" both have only 2 digits, "BCE" has three. Please see here for one of the places I requested the alteration. When I respond, I'll "CC" my talk page with what I've said as well, for convenience sake. :-) The solution that I was working on was to code AD/BC and CE/BCE into templates that can display either, using a Javascript that would allow the user to toggle them back and forth with a click. Restorationism edit

The Restorationism article is in terrible shape. Amongst its many problems is a complete lack of citations. Do you have any online resources that you feel might help in a cleanup of that article? Everything from style and form to grammar needs attention; I'm willing to do a chunk of the work in cleanup, but I don't have the source background to do it right. I was just hoping to get your opinion on the RfC and where you think things fall within this conflict. It turns out that she emailed me a while back requesting Advocacy against someone who was harassing her, then suddenly withdrew her request, only to recently inform me of the RfC. Due to the very small amount of information I was given, and the wad of stuff to sort through from the RfC, and the fact that I was not involved at all with the proceedings, I'm struggling to get a bigger picture of what exactly is going on. I've received a notification from Pedant that he or she, is willing to help me, but i find that him or her is having some delay on his assitance to me. May I politely suggest that you re-read the WP policy in question, before you start accusing me of violating this and that. There's a huge difference between letting 2 users know about your actions as I-B's advocate and actively seeking out every article that you edit and jumping in. I really could care less what you do on/off Wikipedia, as long as you don't harm any more individuals by assuming an entrusted role and breaching that trust placed in you. That's all. UCRGrad, it was by no stretch of anyone's imagination your place to post such a thing. You have been harassing Aeon over this for quite some time now which counts as both stalking and a direct personal attack. This latest spurt of it is merely the straw that breaks the camel's back. Please think about this carefully during your block. Advocacy request edit

Hi, I am reaching out to you with an odd situation even for Wikipedia. I attempted to edit the article on John Littlechild 1who led the first Special Irish Branch for the UK police and who also investigated the Jack the Ripper and Oscar Wilde cases. I saw that the article only touched on the career points of the subject. I noted that the formation of the Special Branch was opressive to the Irish and that Littlechild has a homophobe for his prosecution of Wilde.

These edits were promptly removed several times by editor Ben W. Bell 2 - a pro British Irishman. The editor Necrothesp 3 -- who authored the article -- also removed various entries. I even reduced the entry to say that the formation of the Special Branch was oppressive to the Irish and nothing more. This too was removed under the excuse that I was offering a POV and not a neutral objective fact.

I was going to get administrators to act as third parties but became intimidated by one simple fact -- on Necrothesp's user page its states that he is a British cop and a member of the U.K. Territorial army. I could go on forever talking about why the British police should not be allowed to edit articles on Northern Ireland but that would be useless. I travel in the UK a great deal and the police have special powers to trace users of any BBS system.

Necrothesp and Ben W. Bell also kept posting on my talk page after I said I felt intimidated. I asked them nicely to leave unitl after the editing conflict wass resolved but they still kept posting. I feel very intimidated. I would like to revise the article with more solid sources but fear being ganged up on again by Necorthesp the cop and his friend Ben W. Bell. In the last entry he made on my talk page Necorthest suggested I leave Wikipedia altogether which is very intimidating coming from someone who is a policeman 4.

I would still like to edit the article but would like you or some other advocate to watch what is being said and done. Please help!

UCRGrad, Insert-Belltower, Aeon issue edit

The way Aeon presented things to me, I felt a long break was justified, but the fact that other people felt that such a block was not warranted, have lead me to think that Aeon was a bit misleading. Given my experience with the issue, I would have thought that 3 or 4 days would have been sufficient for him to cool his heels rather than a full week; however, I'm still a bit confused over how other peoples' feelings leads you to the conclusion that Aeon was misleading (in fact I'm not even sure if I know what you mean by "misleading"). אמר Steve Caruso (desk/AMA) 01:20, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
The issue is getting out of hand, and I don't want to deal with it anymore. The way it went was something like this:
  1. Aeon approaches me on my talk page. Since we are both members of Esperanza, he saw my adminship announcement. He asks for my involvement in an issue where UCRGrad is harrassing Aeon on Aeon's talk page, regarding his conduct in the Insert-Belltower mediation case.
  2. I determine that even though UCRGrad's comments were not presonal attacks per se, they were uncivil, and therefore warranted blocking, because of where UCRGrad posted his concerns (namely, other user talk pages).
  3. I block UCRGrad for one day, later shortening this to six hours. I ask Aeon to give me updates, because I believe Aeon to be the wronged party.
  4. Several days later, Aeon shows me another instance of UCRGrad posting messages concerning Aeon's conduct in the Insert-Belltower mediation case on user talk pages. The instance Aeon presented me with was posted on Insert-Belltower's talk page. Aeon also told me that he had requested that UCRGrad ";eave him alone." Because the meesages are so similar to the messages I issued his first block for, I blocked for one week, for wikistalking.
  5. Insert-Belltower contacts me on my talk page, saying that the message from UCRGrad which Aeon used as evidence to get me to re-block UCRGrad was in fact solicited, and that he and UCRGrad had been discussing the mediation case. Aeon was not involved with the message on Insert-Belltower's talk page at all.
  6. I immediately unblock UCRGrad per Insert-Belltower's request.
Thank you for your time, the list is quite long. Although I would still enjoy updates, I feel that if further admin actions are required, I am too involved in this dispute to act impartially. Thank you, RyanGerbil10(The people rejoice!) 02:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd certainly be able to help, but I'm not certain that Joehazelton would think me an appropriate advocate, inasmuch as my userpage contains a (succinct and barely visible) profession to the effect that, even as I'm an anarcholibertarian, I support categorically the Democratic Party of the United States; to the extent that the problems at the Roskam article have devolved from simple content dispute, they seem to be connected to the avowed political views of the contributors. Mystery AMA request edit

Yeah, I found out about that because of a post on WP:AN, I think, or maybe it was WP:ANI. I handled it as an admin, not as an advocate, though: I blocked Sarner for personal attacks. I think I shouldn't ever use my admin powers in an AMA request: I understand that role to be advisory, and to compromise your neutrality.. Mangojuicetalk 15:12, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Dave, you nearly killed me as, when reading this, I was taking a sip from my morning tea (which promptly got interesting). :-) I would certainly consider such an honor! :-) A few months ago, I nominated myself and the only thing that held me back on the vote was my edit count (which was a mere 500 at the time) so I withdrew my request, and tried to get myself involved in the Wikipedia community. The general consensus of the vote was that if I were to come back in a few months and try again, most of the people who voted the first time around would support me. Brain Pick edit

Margana was rejecting consensus as a conspiracy. I had some input towards attempting to find common ground before David asked me to step back. "It's just that in such a sensitive case, I think it's often better to present a united front." The big question is if an admin got drawn into the edit war and blocked while involved. I didn't get involved in that discussion. Margana wanted a RfC but David reccommended against it. That's what I know, but I haven't been staying extremely current.

Please review the discussion on UUcp's page and on the Peter Paul, Peter F Paul pages to note that Uucp has a clear political agenda in editing the biography of a man who has become the nemesis of Hillary Clinton. The advocate that has attempted to intercede can not affect Uucp's intent to reedit the Peter F Paul bio page and deface and vandalize it based on his own agenda. he must be locked out of further defaceing the Disambiguity page and the bio page. thanks for your intervention. Assistance with Users FeloniusMonk and KillerChihauhua edit

I would like to ask your assistance with Users FeloniusMonk and KillerChihauahua who continually revert the Paul Weyrich biography to language that I feel aims only to make Mr. Weyrich look bad. I have asked them numerous times to cease their vandalism to his biography, and they refuse. I see pure editorialization in their postings, and I have tried to instill fairness into the criticism section by eliminating direct accusations that are mischaracterizations and innuendos at best.

Considering that I have known Mr. Weyrich personally for five years, and I have had innumerable discussions with him regarding the subjects these two users insist upon inserting, I know they are ad hominem attacks. They also take his quotes out of context in what I feel is an effort to smear him.

I included remarks from Mr. Weyrich where he said he would not consider being part of a movement that would transform the United States into another Iranian-style theocracy. They were deleted, and the only reason I can guess is that these two individuals have an agenda to portray Mr. Weyrich as an extremist.--204.108.237.194 21:23, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
