Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) can also be a misdiagnoses of Barlow's disease, a lack of vitamin C that is not readily visible since baby's do not yet have teeth and so their gums do not bleed. When the human body fights foreign substances in the body there will be a rise in Histamine levels. Vitamin C has been shown to reduce these levels of histamine. A lack of Vitamin C can therefore cause a toxic situation in the body when histamine levels get too high. Illnesses are a good example of situations when histamine levels rise. Vaccinations are also situations when histamine rises and there is a need for Vitamin C.
When presented with what looks like SBS it is possible to do a blood histamine level test. High levels of Histamine would tend to rule out SBS. If the baby is still alive then Vitamin C can be given in high doses to good effect. by the same token ill babies given Vitamin C will be given a boost to fight. taken from the work of Dr C A B Clemetson
