YouTube career

edit

Hudgins started his YouTube channel under the name MrBossFTW in March of 2010.[8] Since then he has amassed over half a billion video views and a following of over 1.8 million subscribers,[8] being featured by MTV,[9] Kotaku,[10] and other gaming media outlets.[11][12][13] His video content usually consists of videos relating to Grand Theft Auto and the fifth installment in the series, Grand Theft Auto V,[14][15] and other Rockstar Games related titles.[16][17] The creators of Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games, have had him as a guest on live streams[2] and have featured his content on their official newswire.[18]

The video podcast series (now discontinued) of videos uploaded to YouTube by Hudgins and his friends' channels, Dat Saintsfan and Jobless Garrett – titled The Squadcast – was featured on the Rockstar Newswire on 24 March 2014.[3] During the series, they discussed Rockstar Games related news and viewers could submit questions to them via email for a chance that they would be answered within a video.[3] The series produced 31 episodes from February 11, 2014 until October 6, 2014.[19]

On March 19, 2014, Hudgins incorporated the MrBossFTW name, creating the one person Domestic Profit Corporation, MrBossFTW Corporation.[14]

Appearances in other media

edit

Hudgins has been featured multiple times in online media outlets,[20][21][22] including Kotaku,[10] iDigitalTrends,[23] and International Business Times.[24][25] In the latter case, he has been featured in IBT's Technology/Video games category.[26] In an article by International Business Times and in one by the Daily Star discussing upcoming updates to Grand Theft Auto V, Hudgins was referred to as a "renowned [Grand Theft Auto] YouTuber".[24][27]

Images of his video content have also been used by internet publications,[28][29] including The Guardian.[30] The Inquisitr and Morning News USA have featured his content when discussing Grand Theft Auto content updates.[31]

An error he made in a livestream, resulting in the revealing of a Grand Theft Auto V PC video game license/serial key, which resulted in a viewer stealing it, was covered by and Kotaku on April 13, 2015[10] and MTV News the following day.[9] MTV News equated the mistake as the "gaming equivalent of Instagramming your credit card."[9] Soon afterwords, the developers of the game, Rockstar Games, provided him with a new key.
