April 2016 edit

Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and the articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to Groundhog. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, please use the sandbox instead, where you are given a certain degree of freedom in what you write. CabbagePotato (talk) 23:31, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

April 2016 edit

Your recent test edits to Groundhog was vandalism and reverted. Entry of false information is not helpful. If you want to experiment or make a test edit, please use the sandbox. These pages are patrolled by robots and human editors like me. When you make an edit please leave an accurate edit summary, and not a misleading one. You can be blocked for this. Edits edit

Hi. I think your intentions may be good, but adding random unencyclopedic comments like "most people regard psychics as a hoax" and "bogus claims" to articles isn't helpful. If an article is unclear about the the relationship between WP:FRINGE minority and majority viewpoints, or if fringe material is WP:UNDUE, please try to improve it by citing reliable sources. Thanks. - LuckyLouie (talk) 16:59, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Sorry. I just don't know how to cite sources yet. I'll work on it. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 19:17, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Previous account edit

You do not have to say, but it appears that you have been here before. Are you a blocked editor? Who were you before? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:46, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Me? I wasn't on Wikipedia before. I've read Wikipedia before, but never edited. I would know how to cite sources and not be in Adopt-A-User if I was here before. Why do you think that? ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 11:14, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
I thought that you might have been someone else because you got the hang of things so fast here and have been active at AfD. Most newcomers don't find AfD for a while. In fact, most people who've only read Wikipedia but haven't edited do not even know about talk pages. Ask a friend and see. They usually have no idea about all the goings-on behind the scenes. Anyway, you are most welcome here and I am happy to see you taking part. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 20:57, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! I just found the Wikipedia policies, read them, read everything I could to learn, and joined. I should just say yes and have everyone treat me like a veteran editor. :-) ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 21:54, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Bernard Esser edit

Hi-Bernard Esser served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1883 and American state legislators are notable. The citation in the article mentioned that Esser did served in the Wisconsin Blue Assembly in 1883. Thank you-RFD (talk) 23:37, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

El Papalonal Airport edit

Hi ThePlatypusofDoom. El Papalonal Airport is not a particularly notable airport, but it has an identifier from the U.N.'s International Civil Aviation Organization, and it is on at least three of the major airport lists used as Wikipedia references, and it is listed on Wikipedia's Nicaragua list and the List of airports by ICAO code.

Anyway, notability has come up before on airport lists. Airports get copied and miscopied from one list to another list. Our country airports lists are copied lists. No one ever checked the individual airports, mainly because there was no way to do so. Now we have Google Earth and other mapping services, so I am going through the many Wiki country lists and finding the lost airports, and making pages for the red-linked ones. And correcting the pages of an untold number of other smaller airports.

Most of the 480+ airport stubs and pages I've created are not notable, but they're the only verified sources for airports in the 42 countries that I've cleaned up so far. Cptmrmcmillan (talk) 02:32, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Well you said I dont think is very terrible english its either you know or you dont know the english wikipedia terms well.

Let me see We don't tell people I don't think so .

Its either YES OR NO Question sbf1998 16:57, 14 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbf1998 (talkcontribs)

Uh.... What? "I don't think" is just a common phrase in English. Your question is very odd. If this is a try to get me to remove my deletion, It's not happening. I am a native English speaker, I was just expressing my thoughts. I could tell you about your bad English, but I'm not going to. Also, questions are not black and white all the time. If everyone gave a yes or no answer, the concept of probability would not be in math! ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 17:06, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Or maybe I don't edit wikipedia a lot because Idon't want to and I have other things better to do . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbf1998 (talkcontribs) 19:48, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

What? You are making very little sense. Your article was promotional. So I put a PROD tag on this. That's really all. I don't want to get into a fight, so please stop sending me badly worded vague questions. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 21:01, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

Flag for Deletion: NextNav edit

Hi ThePlatypusofDoom,

I have followed all the Wikipedia guidelines - the article has a neutral point of view, valid references and is a notable company.

If you would like to further know why NextNav is a notable company and worthy of inclusion within Wikipedia I have provided additional information below.

NextNav has developed a metropolitan beacon system which allows mobile phones and other devices to reliably determine users location in indoor and urban environments where GPS signals can't be received. Their system delivers latitude, longitude and "floor level" altitude in GPS challenged areas - pinpointing users location accurately. No other company has developed such a technology. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexnaess (talkcontribs) 00:02, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

@ThePlatypusofDoom: Just some friendly advice to a newcomer. You might try searching for reliable secondary sources before tagging articles for notability. For example, I found [1], [2], [3], and [4] with a simple Google search. You seem anxious to help, so I have some further advice, a suggestion really. Next time you find an article with few or no sources, try searching Google books for a cited source that supports the article text. When you find one, paste the url into Google Books citation Tool, hit "load", and copy and paste the resulting citation into the article. Obviously, NextNav isn't a good candidate for this method since the references appear to be all outside of Google books. But I think you might enjoy making actual article contributions rather than just tagging. Cheers, - LuckyLouie (talk) 00:11, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Yes, NextNav looks notable to me. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:31, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Alexnaess, it wasn't flagged for deletion. The article is safe. It was just templated. Add more sources and remove the template. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:32, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Zachary Forshaw edit

Hi there, although I agree that Zachary Forshaw is likely a candidate for speedy deletion, I did want to mention that tagging an article a minute or two after creation is a bit bitey and doesn't really assume good faith. This, of course, doesn't apply to things like adverts or attack pages, but generally giving a new user 10+ minutes is a good rule of thumb. --Non-Dropframe talk 21:45, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Yes, but it was COI editing, an autobiography. This could never be notable, no matter how long this article was worked on for. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 21:47, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
That's undoubtedly true. The purpose of giving a bit of time is to avoid seeming hostile. See WP:NPPNICE for more information. Thanks! --Non-Dropframe talk 22:16, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

Comments about Apache_Tika page edit

Hi I addressed the comments you left about notability and also about citations. I have also asked others on the Apache Tika mailing list to contribute to the description since as you pointed out I am one of Tika's progenitors. Thank you for your constructive comments. In addition, because I am unverified, I am unable to add the Tika logo to the page and upload it from http://tika.apache.org/. If you are able to do that I would appreciate it. NPP edit

Hi. We appreciate your enthusiasm but you have nowhere near sufficient experience to be carrying out maintenance tasks on our encyclopedia. For using New Pages Feed you should first preferably have been around for 90 days and have accumulated at least 500 mainspace edits, and then have read and thoroughly understood WP:NPP, WP:DELETION, and WP:OUTCOMES. I suggest that if you find you must carry out maintenance tasks rather than helping us to build he encyclopedia, you could start with something much easier such as combating vandalism. When you have reached 200 mainspace edits you would be able to enroll at the WP:CVUA to learn how to do it. Happy editing! --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:07, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Where does it say that in the rules? Also, I have been reading Wikipedia policies for around a year now. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 11:57, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
Thirdly, the only reason I joined Wikipedia was to revert vandalism and things like that. If I wanted to write articles, I could have done it under an IP address. I'm really not very interested in writing articles. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 13:09, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
It is generally accepted on Wikipedia that the knowledge of policies and guidelines comes through content 'building' activities. Those are the metrics we apply when according additional user rights. Currently NPP does not have a mechanism to prevent inexperienced users from patrolling new pages. This is a technical issue which will soon be addressed. In the meantime, users who have clearly demonstrated insufficient experience are asked to refrain from doing maintenance tasks and either write new articles or improve existing ones. When you have reached 200 mainspace edits you would be able to enroll at the WP:CVUA to learn how to do it. Thank you for your comprehension. If you have any questions or would like any help, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:35, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Code 8 (2017 film) edit

You opined "this film hasn't been released yet, so I agree with the logic of WP:TOOSOON". That's fine, as I am the author who wrote the logic of WP:TOOSOON. But what you may have overlooked is that after offered that comment, the article's focus has changed from a predictive about a 2017 film to one specifically about a released and well-covered 2016 film. To meet WP:GNG and WP:NF, and even though not all are being used (not a mandate), we have multiple more-than-trivial coverages which address the topic directly and in detail. IE: International Business Times, Inquisitr. Entertainment Weekly, I09, Comicbook.com, MoviesRoom (Poland). Coming Soon, Crowdfund Insider, Deadline, Da Endgadet (German), Journal Du Geek (French), Observatorio Do Cinema (Portuguese), Sensacine (Spanish), Tomatazos (Spanish), and more... As it is no longer the article of which you first opined, might you care to revisit? Schmidt, Michael Q. 04:54, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

TAFI edit

Hello, ThePlatypusofDoom - I supported your nomination of The arts at WP:TAFINOM. I hope you don't mind, but I added today's "daily hits" (daily page views) statistic, and I added a few things I saw in the article that could be improved. I wonder if your nomination is in the right place, though. There is a permanent section on The Arts just below your nomination. If you decided to move it, I think you could copy all of it (except the heading "The Arts" – not the article title, but the unnecessary heading, which you could remove) while in edit mode; then, after right-clicking, click "Copy", and then paste it (click "Paste") after the other nominations in The Arts section. If you'd like, I can do this for you. Just let me know.  – Corinne (talk) 02:27, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

Sleek Kitchens edit

Hi PlatypusofDoom! I see that you nominated my page for deletion - Sleek Kitchens specifically under WP:CORP. As per the discussion on the deletion page, I did modify many of the references to include content from mainstream media platforms which I hoped would help showcase notability. This should have ideally, I had hoped improved the quality of references. Could you please point to any specific reason as to why the page was deleted in spite of me making the necessary changes? Thanks! Sportonion555 (talk) 16:22, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
