Randall Newman (born January 12, 1999), better known by his stage name Newboy,[3] is a rapper, songwriter, record producer and fashion blogger.[4] He rose to fame after appearing in various concerts and other music events. He is currently signed to MicroDot Music Group.[5]
Early life edit
Newman was born on January 12, 1999, in Gaborone, Botswana, to Jimmy Monoka(19??-2004) and Beauty Newman, a high school teacher. He is one of the Newman Triplets. He went to Tshegetsang Junior Secondary School in Molepolole before settling in Gaborone where he attended St. Joseph's College, Kgale where he is a student presently. He grew up listening to a variety of music genres, including soul, house, funk, indie rock, and post-punk.
His stage name is derived from his surname Newman[6]

2014–Present: Rise to fame and UnDefined edit
Newboy originally began his career in music by learning the sampler. Since then, he has learned several instruments, from the drums, guitars, and keyboard to the MPC.He discovered hir musical talent after participating in local and national singing competitions. After releasing his first song, he shortly became one of the most influenced child-singers in Botswana. On 6 January 2015, Newman released his first official debut single, "Undefined".[7] He released the single UnDefined as a free download in December 2014 and was announced via facebook.
Artistry edit
Newboy sings and raps, combining elements of hip hop and contemporary R&B. A large portion of Newboy's work incorporates elements of both rapping and singing.
Newboy cites Ty Dolla Sign and Dj Khaled as his main influences. He further lists Cassper Nyovest, Chris Brown, Drake, Riky Rick, and Wiz Khalifa as influences.
"It's all I listened to. I actually didn't listen to male vocalists until about two years ago. I just listened to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan. Massive voices."[8]
