Jay Friedman

It is EXTREMELY bad form to put a speedy tag on an article when there's already an AfD on it, especially when someone else tried to speedy it for the same reason the day before and it was removed. Frankly, it's totally absurd to think that article should be deleted in the first place--Jay Friedman is an extremely well-renowned trombonist, as the stub that's currently there makes clear--but the speedy tag is absolutely uncalled for. Well, only an admin can delete an article, and it would have to fail notability, be submitted to Prod or be submitted to AfD. You can start by reading WP:MUSIC, and then see WP:PROD or WP:AFD, based on whether the article meets notability. Wow, that was quick! Thanks for the response. As I understand the policy, wouldn't using actual wheel graphics get into fair use issues. Do reproductions of copyrighted material fall under fair use? Also, the explanations of the various spaces like Free Spin are already on the main page; I created the configuration page purely to illustrate the wheel, replacing a table on the original page which was taking up way too much space. I'm not sure how to satisfy your requirement for reliable third-party citations. I haven't found a reliable site other than the official show sites for the ratings and HD information. Yorktown Center

I disagree wholeheartedly with your last revision. I do not believe anything you eliminated was POV. Anything I added I could back up with issues of the Lombardian, if I had time enough to research it. Furthermore, Charles A. Stevens was NOT a mini-anchor. If your criteria for mini-anchor includes inside and outside doorways, then Herman's, Evans, and Walgreens also were mini-anchors, as well as Madigan's and Woolworth's.

I grew up three blocks from this mall. Though I may not always know the dates, I know what I'm talking about.

• While I agree that there are some mall articles that might be justifiable targets for deletion, my quick review of your stream of AfDs shows that many of the malls do have credible claims of notability. My usual first place to check after reading the article as it stands is to check the Major Malls Directory at http://www.icsc.org/apps/directories.php to see how large the mall is, and to add that back as a source to the article. Many of the malls nominated are very large malls with articles that could easily be expanded to meet community standards of notability. It really surprised me to see a statement at the AfD for Regency Mall (Racine) stating that no reliable sources could be found, when a Google News Archive search turned up several hundred. I do recognize that you are improving other articles, but there seems to me to be a need for some greater due diligence before starting these AfDs. You have been nominating very large numbers of mall articles, and the track record of major malls mixed in with the chaff has been too high in the recent past. As you can see, I have been easily able to improve the articles for larger malls using readily available sources, and I have been able to build consensus that these malls are notable; in contrast, I have mostly ignored AfDs for smaller malls, unless there is some clear inkling of notability stated in the article, and allowed these malls to fall by the wayside. I would hope that if a more thorough check were done and only the least worthy made it to AfD, so that I would hardly need to bother checking any of the articles you had nominated. Please accept this as constructive criticism; it is clear to me that you are not someone on the warpath trying to delete all malls, and that your edit history shows a strong track record of improving mall articles. I am contacting you about the WebRidesTV article. I created the article and can see that some people have labeled it as "salt". I just want to apologize about the recreation of the page so many times. The reason that I had to re-create the article numerous times is because it was my very first one that I created and I was unaware of all of the guidelines that I had to follow when posting an article. I was in contact with many different administrators that helped me out to produce the final article that is up now. The site is actually very notable. The Alexa ratings for the site are quite impressive and significantly increasing every month. As of 12/18/2007 the current U.S. ranking is 2,984, I have provided a link to the traffic details page of WebRidesTV [2]. In terms of notable sources the ones provided with the article are prominent and significant enough to validate the site as Wikipedia worthy. I hope you understand and reconsider your opinion on the deletion of this article, it would be greatly appreciated.

Speedy was contested

I'm sure you're aware that the speedy for Grabber Tees was contested, which is why I brought it to AfD for community consensus. It is an obvious delete, that goes without saying, but I'm pretty sure a speedy tag is not supposed to be put on twice if the "hangon" tag is added (it was). Am I missing something? yeah, no prob. I've done that too. The author (named Grabbertees - surprise!) put the hangon tag, then did exactly what he was supposed to do by asserting why he wanted the article on the articles talk page. I then put it up for AfD to get consensus, and now there are three SPA accounts all messing around. I should've waited for the AfD myself a bit perhaps. I am pretty sure that not every single has a music video. Also, someone will think a single is a music video, but actually it isn't. And some songs which have a video do not release as a single. Although you made the bulk of the contributions to the article on Fort Saginaw Mall, I would advise against having it speedy deleted as {{db-author}}. The article has been around quite a while and has garnered edits from some other people, so a unilateral deletion did not seem appropriate to me. The two articles do not need to assert notability. The project they're part of says that such are notable. What we've got here is a difference of opinion on the meaning of "notable". Mountain Farms was listed in List of shopping malls converted to outdoor format, so I decided to fill in the article the red link was pointing to. While I was at it, I reorganized and partially rewrote the Hampshire Mall article which at the time had a "needs rewrite" badge on it. Whoever worked on the Hampshire Mall article before me thought it was notable. Whoever placed the link to a possible Mountain Farms article thought it was notable. Now you come along and say, based on no apparent real effort other than a quick web search, that we're all wrong and these are a waste of space. Yeah, it looks like you're right. WP:MUSIC: "In general, if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." When I copied the prod notice and looked for the creator, for the paste, I was suprised. My fellow deletionist, of all people! I figured I missed something, but decided to prod it anyway, as it doesn't really harm anyone.

Now that we are on the subject, let me ask you a question. The whole music culture is unfamilar to me, so bear with me. In WP:MUSIC it states that an artists are generally notable if they "had a charted hit on any national music chart." What is a "national music chart"? For example, in Lynam (band) it states that one of their albums "peaked at #21 on Billboard's 'Top Independent Albums chart' and #19 on its 'Top Heatseekers chart.'" I see that you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/York Steak House which I withdrew (after others improved the article). Manchester Center deletion

Greetings. In your nomination to delete the article Manchester Center, you mention that there is a size in square footage which makes a shopping center eligible for "super-regional classification" and inclusion in Wikipedia. What is that size and where can I find the policy/guideline page which includes it? MCA Records and MCA Nashville Records artists

In my opinion, any recording which originated from MCA Records' Nashville office is considered to be MCA Nashville. The complication is the dissolution of MCA Records while the Nashville office continues to issue recordings under the MCA name. If you look at the UMG Nashville article which incorporates the MCA Nashville Records article, it traces MCA Nashville to the formation of the country music division of Decca Records in 1945. So as I stated, my opinion is that anything issued by MCA Records' Nashville office, whether it bears either the MCA or MCA Nashville logo, is considered to be MCA Nashville Records. Also, note that reissues of recordings from MCA's Nashville office which were first issued on the MCA label were reissued on MCA Nashville Records and NOT Geffen Records so this raises the stakes here. Mercury and Mercury Nashville

The main difference between MCA and Mercury in regards to their Nashville offices prior to the Mercury Nashville and MCA Nashville names being adopted is that Mercury Records is still an active label while MCA Records is not. The earliest record I found of Mercury recordings made in Nashville were with Johnny Preston of "Running Bear" fame in 1960 and found at [3]. The earliest country music I found which Mercury recorded featured Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys recorded in Cincinnati in 1949 and found at [4] Steelbeard1 (talk) 03:54, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Pre Deletion Trama

I am working on an essay at User:Pharmboy/PDT and asking input from a couple of editors and admins whom I most trust. I see a lot of tension in AFD/Speedy from new users who jump into writting new articles, and even find myself BITEing the newcomers from time to time, and think an essay like this will actually improve Wikipedia by reducing tensions and helping educate the newcomers who are adding articles. Need a neutral opinion

I'm not sure how long you've been following the Jeopardy! article, but it already went through a verylong phase and has split off most of its content into other articles and relocated most of its specific examples to footnotes. How do you justify adding a verylong tag now, when the article is on the whole shorter than it has ever been in the last several years? What, in particular, would you remove or split off? I ask this in earnest because I've been thinking very hard about ways to get this article down to size without crippling it or depriving it of essential information. I'm out of ideas. The current article is 63 KB, which, according to WP:LENGTH, puts it in the category "Probably should be divided (although the scope of a topic can sometimes justify the added reading time)". • Just a note on this. Thanks for attempting to clean up the non-noteworthy bands here. One thing I would ask, though, is that you not nominate categories of the album variety until the contents have been deleted. The empty categories can then be deleted without discussion. But prior to that, they will be kept on CfD per hundreds of past precedents, since any album articles that does survive needs a subcategory of Category:Albums by artist. AfD question: Recombinant text

I have very little experience in AfD matters, and am asking for your input before nominating an article for deletion, because, quite frankly, I do not want to be seen as someone who capriciously nominates articles which do not meet AfD standards.

If you have time, please take a look at this article. It was created by the person who—as the intro asserts—is the very person who coined the term. Most of the edits are by that person. Most, if not all, of the sources link back to this person. I mean, at best it appears to me to constitute OR, at worst, self-promotion. But maybe I'm seeing it wrong. What do you think?

I selected you and many other editors pretty much completely at random; I picked one day's AfD archives, and clicked on the talk pages of the first two or three dozen editors' talk pages I came across. I agree with you that the band will probably be deleted, however I removed the speedy tag because the article barely attempts an assertion of notability, therefore (barely) not qualifying for speedy. speedy deletion and AFD

While it is not particularly good practice, there is nothing in either WP:AFD or WP:CSD that states the two cannot be attempted simultaneously. Its not a big deal but you may want to consider refraining from closing these debates early, since in cases that are not covered by WP:SNOW it can be seen as stepping on other editor's toes. Still Pending AFD

You and I are in a similar position

Both of our last RfAs, which ran consecutively, closed as no consensus at about two thirds support. We've both got a large number of edits, and frequently contribute to AfD (although I haven't been doing so that much in the past couple of days). We're about the same age (although I'm slightly older than you). Even our usernames are kinda similar in the CamelCase way and the number of characters per word if you took the last two letters away from "Research". I am in the shopping center industry. I wonder what knowledge you may possses to determine the the significance of a center. Is it industry standards? Sales per Sq. Ft., EBITDA, Shopper Traffic?

My question to you is "How the hell can you know the significance of a center in MA if you are in MI?"

Jefferson Ward in Wilmington DE

Hi, I can't prove it to you but there was indeed a Jefferson Ward at the Concord Mall back in the 80's. It was an anchor store located at the south end of the mall and was demolished in the early 90's. A Sears is now located there.
