Tanith Wilson has been passionate about restoring old marae and carvings. he participated in the Restoration of muriwai Marae between 2012 - 2014. He carved three models of lee Enfield rifles for the opening of C Company house in Gisborne, however there was only enough room for one to be displayed. Tanith assisted with the setup of Tairawhiti museum for the Toi Tamanuhiri exhibition in 2013. e was commissioned to create an artwork by the Hon.Nanaia Mahuta, and also carved a koruru for the Rt. Hon Winston Peters Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, and gave a small basalt toki called Te Ihi o Tamanuhiri to the british high commissioner Laura Clarke

Theft of Carvings edit

Tanith is a descendant of the original Carvers of Muriwai marae, in particular Waitohi Waaka, Hemi Waaka, Tiemi Wirihana, and Te Kipa matanohi.

At the end of 2014 Tanith Wilson was commissioned by the trustees of Muriwai marae to carve a new set of raparapa (carved barge board terminations for a traditional maori meeting house), these carvings were taken to an AGM of the Ngai Tamanuhiri Tutu Poroporo trust in 2015 and it was agreed by the kaumatua (including WWII C Company VeteranNoel Raihania) that these would be installed to commemorate the one hundredth year since the marae was moved to its current location from Ro-pa, this was finally accomplished in October 2016 at the request of the marae chairperson, however a small group of jealous dissenters stole them on the 07th of December that same year. when Tanith began to attack the act that the thieves committed by using social media to express his outrage and caused controversy for the tribe.

Contributions to Wikipedia edit

I will be overhauling the Ngai Tamanuhiri, and Rongowhakaata pages shortly as they are neither particularly interesting or completely accurate.
