Hi I'm Jenny Nicholls, and I'm based in Auckland, New Zealand. I used to work full-time for North & South, a monthly current affairs magazine formerly owned by Bauer media, as an art director, book and film reviewer and travel writer. I also wrote a monthly science column for the magazine, which explored topical science subjects for non-academic readers. I have written about science funding, algorithims, NZ native birds, CRISPR, human genetics, botany, the evolution of dogs, online misinformation campaigns, and the immune system, among other things. Many columns have been inspired by popular science books, and can be read as extended reviews. I also regularly judge cartoons and graphic art for the NZ Voyager Media Awards, and wrote columns for Stuff (a New Zealand current affairs website). I was an Ockham New Zealand Book Awards judge 2021, and was formerly on the board of the Waiheke Sculpture on the Gulf 2022 art exhibition. (This was a non-paid, voluntary position). I work as a sub-editor for the Waiheke Gulf News, and review books for the NZ Listener.
