How the French view America new article content ... France and America have been close allies since 1778 and have only gotten closer in the years. Their history is parallel to ours because of our wars, rebellions, and allied Nations. There has been turbulence between the two nations in the past, however, things are back on track. To put it mildly, Americans don't understand the French, and vice versa. It is because of our own independence that we gained our own culture, much different than the other.
