'Cynonyte

Early Days: Cynonyte is a thrash, death metal band from the triad of North Carolina. Founded in 2004 by vocalist/guitarist Mark Lucas and then vocalist Micah Diller. The duo had attempted to resurrect their former band, Anasazi, when the other members failed to commit to a reunion; they decided to form a new group. In Cynonytes early stages the songs consisted mainly of the songs Mark had written in Anasazi. Tracks like “Vacuum” and “Desperate Thoughts” and “Agony Without” were reformed and the search for a core rhythm section began.

The first lineup was formed in 2005 consisting of Micah on vocals, Mark on guitars and backing vocals, new to the group was Glenn Pounds on bass guitars and drummer Josh Schmidinger. With a solid lineup at hand, Mark began molding the old songs and creating new ones. Along with Micah they created new songs such as “Dark time of my life”, “Dark Visions” and the still popular “Dismiss the reality”. During that time the band recorded a demo album titled “UnXeptable”, a phrase used as an inside joke among the band in their practice space. The album was recorded and engineered by Alan Royal.

Making Their Mark: After a year of work, and numerous shows across NC, SC and VA. Glenn Pounds decided to resign to spend more time with his family. Meanwhile, a rift had developed between Josh and the remaining members. Sensing Josh's departure soon, Mark called upon a newly reunited acquaintance. A drummer by the name of Hippie. Known for his speed and technical drum skills in his band Torture Cell, and with their almost identical taste in music and influences, Hippie was the guy for the job. Hippie was leaving Torture Cell due to differences in the band when Josh was making his exit. Hippie joined Cynonyte in March of 2006, now the search for a bass player continued.. During the search, Mark and Hippie revamped the first Cynonyte songs as well as created some new ones. After the search was nearly exhausted for a reliable bassist, an unlikely candidate the band overlooked emerged. Longtime friend of the band Chris “Skreechy” Sattinfield, decide to give it a shot. Chris officially joined in the summer of 2006, and the band played their first show of this line up September, 19th at Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro NC.

Many shows were played and the band once again entered the studio with Alan Royal to do a full length album. During the recording process a frustrated Chris decided he couldn't handle the band anymore and announced his departure. Former bassist Glenn Pounds was called in to help finish the album. The tracks would never see the light of day. Hippie was diagnosed with Avascular necrosis in his hips, a disease where there is cellular death of bone components due to interruption of the blood supply. This would require 2 separate surgeries and a lot of down time. Instead of searching for a replacement, the band decided to use the down time to focus on writing new material. During the down time while writing the band searched for a new bassist to replace Chris. They also decided on adding a second guitarist to the mix to broaden the sound. Hippie suggested one of his old band mates, Darren Holleman, guitarist from Torture Cell joined in the summer of 2007. Then problems arose with vocalist Micah Diller. Due to other obligations Micah couldn't make it to rehearsals. With Darren still learning the song structures, vocals were needed. Since Mark wrote all lyrics and vocal structures, he took over at practice and eventually took over all vocal duties. To this day the band the band declares Micah was never fired and he never quit. He was simply released. Then out of the blue Chris decided he wanted another shot. After a little time off to beef up his skills “Skreechy” was back and the band was on the move again

The new line up took the stage for the first time September 7th 2007 almost one year after a previous lineup change. Over the next couple years many demos would be recorded in the bands own practice and recording space. During this time they would play shows all over the south, sharing the stage with bands from all over the globe, such as Ensiferium, Epica, Blackguard, and Silent Civilian. But once again, lineup changes would strike again. In February of 2010, Skreechy would announce his departure from the band again, this time due to the need to explore other musical interests. The band called a few bassists but decided instantly on Fernando “Fernie” Ortega. Upon his second practice/audition Fernie had gone online and learned the entire catalog of songs without being asked to. He was the natural choice for the band. Fernie made his Cynonyte debut at “Blood SWET & Beers 7” a local NC metal fest the Cynonyte puts on twice a year at Somewhere Else Tavern. Since then the band has gained the respect of many big named acts across the world. Once again sharing the stage with Epica, The Agonist and Leaves Eyes to name a few. From making mistress Julyia from Fuse TV a fan, to sharing the stage with Swedish death metal legends Scar Symmetry
