For the first 5 years since its' founding in 2001, Blue Canopy attained 100%+ growth year-on-year.[3] This rapid growth has resulted in Blue Canopy receiving multiple awards. Inc. Magazine has awarded Blue Canopy the prestigious Inc. 500 award two years running (2005, 2006), recognizing Blue Canopy as one of the 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States.[3][4][5]

In 2003, during this period of growth, Eric Husebo, a Blue Canopy partner,[6] began the formation of BC Fed, a wholly owned subsidiary for classified work.[1] It was launched in 2004, with a focus on developing and delivering Blue Canopy service offerings to the government client.[7] [8]

In 2008, Blue Canopy was again recognized for its growth, this time as a Washington Technology Fast Track - 50 award recipient. Washington Technology recognizes and ranks the top 50 fastest growing technology companies in the Washington Metropolitan area. [9][3]

In May of 2008, Blue Canopy launched a destination portal that it had developed called mySBX. mySBX enables users to grow their businesses, find new opportunities, and access content built specifically for government contractors. mySBX is a Web 2.0 collaboration platform for government contractors to partner, share information, exchange billable opportunities, and access valuable insight into best of breed vendors and services.[10][11]

In December 2009, the Blue Canopy leadership team sold the spin out company, mySBX, to Deltek.[12]

Blue Canopy made headlines when it announced that it was competitively selected to receive a prime contract, under a $6.6 billion multi-award contract from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) to provide worldwide Information Technology (IT) support services to the Government. The award of the highly competitive Solutions for the Information Technology Enterprise (SITE) contract was made official, in May of 2010.[2]

  • System Engineering: provides a framework and methodology that will capture, catalog and validate the operational and technical needs to deliver a System Concept Design (SCD) to the PMO. [14]
  • IT Enterprise Integration Services: designs, develops, and maintains mission-critical IT systems and architectures for National Security and Defense clients that require high-quality information technology (IT) services to support the global intelligence-gathering, processing, analysis and dissemination missions.[14]
  • Information Security: involves exposing threat agents, identifying threats, assessing vulnerabilities within the enterprise and ensuring safeguards are in place to ensure critical information and intellectual property is protected and the organization is compliant with Federal or State regulations and rules.   • Specialized Training (Role-playing): combined all elements of modern battlefield into a classical training environment both on individual, collective and unit level, while using live, virtual and simulated theaters.[17]

Blue Canopy gives back to the community on many levels. Bradley Schwartz, the CEO of Blue Canopy is a board member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) [20], supports the Equal Footing Foundation [21] providing support to under privileged kids and serves as a coach for the Entrepreneurial Center’s FastTrak program[22] to mentor first time CEOs.

In 2009, Blue Canopy was one of 20 small businesses selected to participate in President Obama’s Job Summit at the White House where Sheryl Schwartz, [23][24]Blue Canopy’s COO, contributed time and effort to develop a plan to stimulate jobs in the economy.
