Hi, I was born in 1976, and growing up I guess you would call a cross in between a xer and a yer (it you want to call it that). My dad and my mom divorced when I was about six (which is sadly becoming even more common now days). My dad is slightly older than my mom, he is in his 60's now and just below retirement age. I guess he is what the editor of this website would call a member of the "silent generation." My mom was born in 1948, so she is definitely a "baby boomer." By the way, these dates to me is up for debate. I don't really think that the baby boomers really know what the beginning and the cut off dates are for their generation and it is throwing the "silent generation" (most of the so-called younger xers, early yer's grandparents off) and every generation after them off. I think that us xer's and yer's should make up our minds for the cut off soon and "out wit them, while we can put our two cents in." The Baby Boomer generation cutoff might change again. I will discuss more about this in another article, open for debate. Recently, I was told that 1946 was the "oldest baby boomers, " whereas less than a decade ago 1941 was the oldest year for a baby boomer. Two years ago, 1945 was the youngest year for a baby boomer and 1977 (or so, meaning I think that 1976 is debatable) as the oldest year for the "new generation." Otherwise known as the millinials (or however you spell it).

Anyways back to my story. So my dad is just before 65 now, I think he was born in the early 1940's and my mom is definitely an "baby boomer." My older sister was born in 1970 and growing up my mom referred to her as "an accident" and a "guinnie pig" for my younger brother (born 1980) and I Could someone put spell check on this feature please? I'd greatly appreciate it!!!! That really made my sister feel well. My sister felt responisble for my grandparents when my mom and my dad worked (I guess taking over the responisbility for my mom in caring for my aging siblinings) and for my brother and I. I soon found myself babysitting both my "baby brother," the neighborhood kids who my mom is supposed to babysit, and for many animals (as my mom was also a veternary assistant for many years of her life). I had alot of responsiblility put on me as a four year old and I am fortunate that my family made me go to church at a young age and saw a lady that was like a female "Oral Roberts" as my mother had put it." By the way, this woman prayer for my mom when she had us kids and she was delivered us in less than a half hour. Now that's a miracle!!!! Anyways, God gave me alot of grace growing up, especially when my parents divorced and my mom was meeting all sorts of strange men trying to find a father for us. This to me is typical of many generation x/y, even zers as the divorce rate is above 50% now (or so). My parents none the less, were more protective over my brother and I than my older sister. I was born in October of 1976 and was a "very wanted child," as my older sister really bugged my parents to have me. My mom had three miscarriages before me, so she was really desparate to have me. I used to think that they had me so that they would actually agree on something and not argue so much, but they ended up arguing anyway. My sister and I really, really bugged my parents to have a boy, thus came my older brother (born June, of 1980). And that's my siblings and I. I guess I'm a cross between a later xer and an early yer. It seems that these dates change with the change of technology (go figure). I seem to realate to the yer's (even though I am not that young and will turn 30 :-( in October this year). I am considered just "very, very young" to my sister and her friends and I can definitely say that I had finished college, began Bible School (which I am told now that I am getting too much education) and preparing for the mission field (and hopefully meet a husband who will want to go the mission field with me while I am preparing). I guess I'm an over achiever. I noticed that many x/yer's (as this editor puts it) are getting their bachelor's and masters degrees before they are 30. Overall, I was born in late 1976 (probably close enough to the 1977 cut off year), I went to school with people born in 1977 because I was held back in school because there was a before August "cut off" date period thing going there and I grew up very embarassed because of it. I could of skipped parts of 1st grade, but my mom held me back, I could of graduated from high school early but I held myself back (I felt like I wasn't ready for college yet, and this extra year boosted up my g.p.a a bit). I graduated from college in 1995, college in 2000 and entered my first "real job" right after college. I went through "burn out" in 2002, returning "back to school in 2003," returned "home from school"/protected from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Now I'm going through another one of those burn-out resting periods again and I am working with some baby boomer mentors to prepare me for the mission field, if that's what God wants to do with me. Anyways that's my story. Hope it's not too long.

Oh by the way I would like the editor to e-mail me. I have some revision ideas/questions about his articles on generation x and y.
