Academics: I am a junior at Drake University.I am a student in Global Youth Studies. I am pursuing my BA in writing. I am passionate about female and LGBT equality. I am also interested in mental health and rebellion and the effect all of these have on youth. A few pages I would be interested in working on would be LGBT student movement.
The LGBT student movement page has many issues with it. First, it is entirely USA based. There are no mentions of student movements from anywhere else around the world. Even within the USA, there are only three states represented. The information provided for these states only has information about one campus in each state. The information is generic and is almost exclusively history based for that campus. It doesn't state much (or any) of what the campus is doing for the movement. Second, there is a severe lack of references used for the page, five to be exact. Only two of those sources are academic quality sources. The other sources are generic websites that are relevant, but are not specific as to where the information comes from. Third, there are two external links listed, but they are both dead links. Third, all of the information is college based. All of this ends up with an extremely limited view of the topic.
My plan is to broaden the knowledge of the United states movements. I want to talk about steps that are being taken in the movements across the United States. I am thinking of also looking into potential counter-movements to show both sides of spectrum. I want to incorporate information about what movements are happening in schools that pre-tertiary. I also want to incorporate a global perspective about LGBT student movements. I want to add information about what other countries are doing and the potential resistance they are facing.
I want to use a mixture of academic articles as well as other sources to give a more global, and more complete view of what students at all academic levels around the world are doing to fight for rights, equality, and acceptance.
