ARUNDEL TOWERS (awful high rise complex pre west quay)

Arundel Towers were a mid-twentieth-century high-rise mixed use complex located near the city centre of Southampton. Built on the former waters edge between Western Esplanade and Portland Terrace, they existed on the site that is now home to the West Quay Shopping Centre. The name was taken from the orginal Arundel Tower was part of the town walls and was named after Sir John Arundel, Governor of Southampton Castle at the time of the French raid on the town in 1338. The towers stood at 50m and were designed by Richard Seifert. Office, residential and commercial units were mounted on top of a multi story car park, adjoining the Dog and Duck pub. [1]

Demolition edit

The towers and multi story car park were demolished in 1998 to make way for construction of the West Quay Shopping Centre.
