Marion Eichmann 2021 in her Studio

Marion Eichmann (* 1974 in Essen, Germany) is a German artist known for her sculptural paper collages, room installations, and drawings.

Life

edit

Marion Eichmann studied arts at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee (1996–2002).

Her final project „16324800 Maschen“ (2002)[1] (16324800 Meshes) was a massive room installation that helped her rise to international renown.

After her master student project "Ping Pong" (2003), a room installation of common objects covered in knit yarn - she started collaborations with BMW and spent three months working in Tokyo following an invitation from the Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake.[2]

During her residence in New York in 2005 Marion Eichmann created detailed drawings of the cityscapes. She later reworked some of them into large-format illustrations and drawings, using various found objects and coloured paper to add a three-dimensional relief to her sketches.

To this day this remains her trademark style and can be seen in walkable room installations such as „Laundromat“ (2016/17, Kunstverein Marburg[3], IG Metall HaL[4]).

Marion Eichmann employs and combines several drawing and collage techniques to create colourful, three-dimensionally iterated pictures, objects, and installations.

Everyday objects are most commonly the foundation for her creations. Her works are highlighted by a great attention to detail in creation and observation and she often uses these details as the key motivation behind her pieces.

Marion Eichmann lives and works in Berlin. Her pieces can be found in several private and public collections, such as the Hasso Plattner Foundation, the collection Leinemann and the collection of the German Bundestag. In 2021 the Art advisory board of the Bundestag[5] has tasked her with an arts project for the German parliament to centre around the themes of architecture and parliamentary usage of the Reichstag[6].

With the exhibition "Follow M.E:." the gallery Stihl Waiblingen[7] has dedicated the first monographic retrospective in an art museum to Marion Eichmann.[8][9][10]
