All advocacy is prohibited on Wikipedia. Paid advocacy is an especially egregious form of advocacy and is strictly prohibited. Paid advocates are editors who, as employees or contractors, derive a financial benefit from promoting the interests of individuals or organizations on Wikipedia, contrary to Wikipedia's mission to provide neutral, disinterested coverage of topics. Editors engaged in paid advocacy are not permitted to edit affected articles directly.
Paid advocates may suggest changes on article talk pages and the noticeboards, particularly the conflict-of-interest noticeboard, and may request edits via the {{request edit}} template. Requested edits are subject to the same editorial standards as any other, and may or may not be acted upon. Paid advocates should provide full disclosure of their conflict of interest on their user page.
Paid editing edit
Not all paid editing constitutes paid advocacy. Some forms of paid editing (or receipt of benefits) are permitted on Wikipedia. Examples include the Wikipedian-in-residence program, the reward board and the education program, where students receive course credits for editing. See the conflict-of-interest guideline for more about paid editing. This policy applies only to editors engaged in paid advocacy.
