CPAmerica International is one of the largest associations of independent CPA firms in the United States. Its membership includes more than 80 firms with almost 170 offices in 40 states. Total personnel of these firms approach 4,500 employees, which includes more than 700 partners. CPAmerica member firms vary in size from $2 million to $60 million in firm revenues. The average member size is approximately $8.2 million. The number of personnel at CPAmerica firms range from 15 to 245 employees. Only one member is accepted to the association in each 50-mile radius in all but a few major cities. Each member is the only CPA firm in its marketplace to receive practice management advice, information sharing between firms, CPE training, marketing products and access to national consultants. Because member firms do not compete with each other in the same marketplace, they openly share knowledge and information to help each other. They do this through e-mail discussion lists, conference calls, an online sharing library and regular nationwide conferences and regional meetings. CPAmerica International has a strategic alliance with Crowe Horwath International. The international association includes nearly 600 offices worldwide with almost 30,000 employees. In 2009, it was ranked as the ninth largest accounting organization in the world. Worldwide revenue of Crowe Horwath International firms is almost $3 billion, of which approximately $830 million is from CPAmerica affiliated firms.

History The association was founded in 1978 as Accounting Firms Associated, inc., and its executive offices were later established in Gainesville, Fla. By 1990, the association had grown to include 43 firms. In 1998, with 60 members, the association formed a strategic alliance with Crowe Horwath International. The association’s name was changed to CPAmerica International in 2000 to better reflect the organization’s national and international scope. The following year, CPAmerica moved into a new 16,000-square-foot headquarters building in Alachua, Fla.
