History

Formation and Early Years (2017–2019)

Rum Jungle was formed in 2017 by Benny McIntyre, Josh Giles, Michael Kolmajer, and Frazer McDonald. The band quickly gained attention for their unique blend of indie and alternative rock, performing at various local venues and festivals. Their early work culminated in the release of the Sun & Smoke EP, which showcased their evolving sound.[1] The EP was well-received, helping the band build a loyal fan base in the Newcastle music scene.

First Major Release and Breakthrough (2020–2022)

In 2020, Rum Jungle released their debut EP, Sun & Smoke, which received positive reviews and helped establish their presence in the Australian music scene. Their single "Dash of Speed" garnered significant attention and airplay on national radio stations like Triple J.[2] The band also performed a cover of Rihanna's "Stay" for Triple J's Like a Version, further increasing their visibility.[3]

Subsequent Albums and Tours (2023–present)

The band continued to build on their success with the release of their latest singles, including "Make It EZ" and "Did the Morning Let You Down".[4][5] They have also announced a series of tours across Australia and the UK.[6][7]In 2024, they were set to perform at notable festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and The Great Escape in Brighton.[8][9] The band has also gained international recognition, performing in the UK and planning to expand their reach to other countries.
