As many of us Wikipedians know, many Final Fantasy and Square Enix-related articles have been under attack from G-Zay (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), a user based in England who has an extreme hatred of Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama and their involvement with Square Enix's video games, for over the past 8 years since his first edit back in November 2010, with his most recent being in July 2018. This individual's misrepresentation of sources and his edits to those articles have been significantly bothersome and it resulted first in a WPVG discussion, then in a AN report in December 2012, and eventually a successful community ban discussion in April 2013. Since then, he has continuously tried to insert his brand of BLP violations into articles relating to Square Enix producers/directors to promote the reputations of people that he likes while defaming people he doesn't.

Editing behaviour edit

His editing shows the following common traits:

  • frequent edits to Square Enix game designer credits in works lists and infoboxes
  • laudatory edits to Hiroyuki Ito, Yasumi Matsuno, Yoshiaki Koizumi and related articles
    • adding fake credits and information to promote their reputation
    • mentioning these designers and their works in other articles
  • edits promoting games by Ito and Matsuno
  • libelous edits to Yoshinori Kitase, Motomu Toriyama and related articles
    • removing legit credits and information
    • adding fake credits and information of "unpopular" works to defame these designers' reputation
  • re-adding former edits by G-Zay sockpuppets that have since been reverted
  • edits on subscriptions and sales of online games Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Guardian Cross
  • long edit summaries
  • edit summaries that mention a small wording change while ignoring the rest of a massive edit to the rest of the page
  • denying connection to G-Zay, sometimes misspelled as Gzay
  • Basically, any time anyone edits the infoboxes of a Final Fantasy game to change the credits, it's G-Zay.

Sockpuppets edit

Because of his location in the London metropolitan area, G-Zay has many Internet service providers at his disposal. G-Zay's usual modus operandus is to edit via several different internet cafe IP addresses in London over the course of a few days, vehemently disproving that he is G-Zay while making extraordinarily similar edits to his previous work. Occasionally he admits to being G-Zay, generally while stating that he is now finished and other editors should stop persecuting future IP addresses that look like him. Occasionally, these take the form of rants that simultaneously proclaim that he is not interested in editing any more and also that he in continuing to edit other topic areas through hundreds of socks. He frequently posts on the GameFAQs forums at the same time as he is editing under one of the several accounts he maintains there, talking about the subject he is trying to edit, which is helpful in proving that the edits come from him beyond the similarity to his previous edits.

In case of new sockpuppet investigations, CheckUser may not always give accurate results as G-Zay openly admitted to using some 20 sockpuppets on Wikipedia in connection with open proxies.

Countermeasures edit

This compilation of factual evidence is for the purpose of preparing a sockpuppet investigation to have this user's edits permanently prevented. See also User talk:G-Zay/Source problems, where there was an extensive cleanup on the articles. The current status is that any edit that looks even similar to his work is reverted on sight by at least 4 different editors.

Was blocked as a DUCK but later unblocked by ArbCom (BASC) after they concluded evidence was insufficient to prove this is the same user as G-Zay. Twitter evidence (not reposted here due to OUTING) proves that the known Twitter accounts of Brayden96 and G-Zay are in frequent communication. This account may or may not also be using socks, and may or may not be acting as a proxy/meatpuppet (edits to FF topics and specifically Yoshinori Kitase, compare Brayden96 to ErikBJohnson89 or KyleP090).
