VERIPOS provides precise navigation and positoning solutions which are used predominately in the offshore oil and gas industry. Using GPS and GLONASS satellite navigation systems, the VERIPOS system calculates the errors in these systems using its global tracking network[1] and broadcasts correction data allowing users to determine their position. Using relative (DGPS or DGNSS) or absolute positioning techniques it is possible to get a real-time position at an accuracy of 10cm anywhere on the surface of the Earth. Typical VERIPOS systems are used in Seismic Exploration, Hydrographic Survey, Offshore Construction, Dynamic Positioning (Marine and Drilling).

History

edit

VERIPOS was founded in 1989[2] as a joint venture between the Brown & Root Survey and Ormston Technology to provide Differential Global Positioning Services (DGPS) for North Sea users transmitting corrections through terrestrial based HF radio transmitters. The partnership was subsequently extended in 1990 to include Osiris, a subsidiary of Boskalis in the Netherlands.

Five years later, in 1994, a joint alliance with Osiris and CGG Topnav partners led to the introduction of a satellite-based DGPS service and also during this time Brown and Root Survey had become Subsea Offshore. Coverage was subsequently extended over intervening years to cover the Gulf of Mexico followed by a progressive expansion of networks for Brazil, West Africa and the Caspian. VERIPOS is now wholly owned by Subsea 7[3] and the business has grown to provide services in all major areas of the globe.

Locations

edit

VERIPOS headquarters are located in Aberdeen, Scotland and has operational bases in Brazil, Houston (US), Singapore, Mexico and Australia. It also has over 80 permanently installed GNSS reference stations located at strategic locations around the globe.
