Fred Whalen Fred was born in Southern Illinois on February 17, 1898 and died October 5, 1990

Fred Whalen was the father of Jack Whalen "The Enforcer" who is notorious for his part in the Los Angeles Mafia. Fred Whalen was also known as "The Thief". Fred Whalen is mostly known as one of the greatest pool players of the 1960's and 1970's. He Promoted the World Pocket Billiards Championship in the late 1960's and Early 1970's. He also made an appearance in the Disney film "The Cat From Outer Space". He portrayed a pool shark who loses to a blindfolded women with the help of the extraterrestrial cat.

In the 1930's Fred his wife Lillian, with her brother Eugene "The Mechanic" and sister in-law the Wunderlich's, left Missouri and headed toward California with Young Jack Whalen. As they made there way to Los Angeles Fred hustled pool to make money to pay for their travels. Once they reached California Fred began bootlegging alcohol from Catalina Island back to the beaches of the Los Angeles area.

Recently a LA Times article was written called the "Gangster Squad". It is now currently in production as a film.
