In general, redirects are cheap, and the Redirect guideline says that editors should not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken, WP:NOTBROKEN. But scattered throughout the guidelines are various exceptions to this rule, where redirects should be bypassed. The exceptions are collected here. These exceptions are especially important after a page move. Ideally bots should be written to implement these rules. (Ideally these point-form references should be expanded into full explanations so that all relevant instructions are in one place, with links to the relevant guidelines.)
- A redirect should not be left pointing to another redirect page: Wikipedia:Double redirects
- Bypass redirects in navigational templates: WP:BRINT and Wikipedia:Navigation templates#Avoid redirects
- Disambiguation pages should not contain links to redirects, with some very specific exceptions: WP:PIPING
- I thought links in a "See also" section should not be to redirects, but I can't find the guideline saying that.
