Seán Reardon (born 28 December 1997) is an Irish professional Footballer who plays for Premier League club Chelsea

Reardon was born in Galway and played youth football with Galway United before beginning his career with their senior team. After showing himself as a promising forwards in Europe Reardon moved to Arsenal where he would have successful loan moves to Burnley F.C. and Fenerbahçe S.K. He proved his abilities and became a starter from that point on. After having a break out season for Arsenal winning the double with a Premier League and the FA Cup also being their top scorer earned a €121,000,000 move to Italian club Juventus. Only a year was spent with the Old Lady where Reardon would make history with a transfer record breaking fee of €138,000,000 to join Parisian side Paris Saint-Germain F.C. winning a treble which included the UEFA Champions League his first year at the club. Reardon would win everything he possibly could and would make a move to FC Bayern Munich. The move didn't work and he would leave on loan to Liverpool. Bayern refused to play him for a year and Reardon would finally get a permanent move out of the club to join Chelsea

Early career

edit

Reardon got given his first Ireland cap aged 17 becoming the second youngest capped Irish International player. It would take until his third cap to get his first and second goal for Ireland in a win against Romania. Reardon would have a falling out with manager Robbie Keane and wouldn't get a callup between March 2021 to May 2022

2022 FIFA World Cup

edit

After Robbie Keane and Reardon worked out their difference he decided to call him up for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Reardon chose number 8 even though he is a striker there wasn't anything wrong with it but unusual. When asked in an interview he said "I love Kobe Bryant" He would get a short mohawk too adding to his antics.

In their first match of Group E they would take on Egypt. Ireland would go behind but Reardon would score from beyond 25 yards to level the game. He rushed to celebrate with substitute Jeff Hendrick. Ireland would score again to go ahead and Reardon's pace was too much for Egypt where he'd run from the halfway with ease and blast it near post to get his second and Irelands third. Egypt would score in the 90th minute but it was too late and Ireland had picked up the 3 points. In the warm up for the match against Poland Reardon would get injured and would be unavailable for the match. Ireland would go on to lose the match 1-0. Reardon would be back for their game versus England where the match ended 0-0 which led to Ireland coming 3rd on 4 points

Seán vs Roy and Retirement

edit

In September 2022 Reardon suffered an injured while playing for PSG which would leave him out for 5 weeks. Despite this he still received a call up to the Ireland squad for their 2024 Euro Qualifier games in October. Reardon refused to go as he was still injured. New Ireland manager Roy Keane saw this as disrespect and declared in an interview that Seán Reardon would never receive an Ireland call up again under his tenure. After Reardon heard this he would announce his retirement from international football at only 24 saying in an interview "Ireland has never worked for me either I'm not getting called up for over a year while playing my best football or being disrespected by the organisation and I'm just not having it anymore" The announcement shocked the world considering he was their best player by a mile. People's opinions were mixed with some being on Reardon's side and agreeing with him and others calling him petty and that Keane was in the right.

Reardon had received 12 caps and scored 9 goals. He hasn't been called up since
