The Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE) is a nonprofit trade association for international real estate investors focused on commercial property in the United States[1][2][3]. The organization was founded in 1988[4] and its membership includes more than 200 real estate executives and institutional investors from 24 countries representing an estimated $2 trillion[5] in assets under management.
The organization is governed by a global board of directors. Donald M. Wise, president and CEO of Metzler Real Estate, is chairman of the board.[4] Gunnar Branson became CEO of AFIRE in 2018.[6][7]
The organization holds several members-only events around the world every year. AFIRE has produced an annual “international investor survey” every year since 1992[8], “to rank markets by various measures, such as stability and opportunity for capital appreciation[9].” Students and faculty from the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business have worked with AFIRE since 2007 to conduct the annual survey.[10]
