SUE WONG is a an American fashion designer. She is noted for her celebrity clientele and her Sue Wong Nocturne evening gown collection.

Personal Life

Sue Wong was born __/__/__. At age six she and her Mother made a harrowing escape from Communist China and traveled to the United States to reunite with her Father in Los Angeles. Desiring a departure from the grim trappings of Communist China fashion, she fantasized and desired a life of beauty and luxury. She won a scholarship to the California Institute of the Arts, though her parents sought a more practical future for her and pushed her to train for a career as a teacher or an accountant.

She married ________ and had two sons, ___________ and ______________. She divorced ____________ in 19__ .

In 1985 (?) she met Dieter Raabe, who became her life business partner from 1985-2008.

She owns an extensive modern art collection including many works by the renowned artist, Jayme Odgers.

In 2004 she purchased The Cedars, a spectacular Venetian Style Landmark home created for the silent film goddess, Norma Talmadge, and took 5 years to painstakingly restore The Cedars to it's golden age grandeur. The Cedars has a storied history having been the playground and home of many notable people including Howard Hughes, Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Ed Wood Jr., Dennis Hopper and Johnny Depp. She now resides between The Cedars in the Los Angeles subdivision of Los Feliz, her bluff-top home in Malibu, and her 22 acre estate in Kipahulu, Maui.

Resisting the wishes of her parents and desiring a career in the apparel arts, she enrolled in the Los Angeles Technical College's fashion curriculum and opened her first boutique at the age of 19, creating custom, handcrafted one-of-a-kind gowns. Within a month of her fashion studies at Los Angeles Technical College, she received a scholarship from Arpeja, a fashion company which catered to younger women. Less than a year later, she abandoned her College fashion training for the hands-on experience of being a full-time sportswear designer for Arpeja. Later, she would become lead fashion designer for Arpeja where she increased their sales from $3 million to $51 million in only 3 years time.

In 1985, with Dieter Raabe, she established the Sue Wong label and created a line of daytime dresses for young women.

In 1999, her signature Sue Wong Nocturne line was introduced just prior to the new millennium. The success of her Nocturne line led to a new client list of notable people which includes Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kelly Osbourne, Taylor Swift, Christina Ricci, Arianna Huffington, Miley Cyrus, Tyra Banks, Kelly Hu, Holly Robinson Peete, Mel B, Jordin Sparks, Hayden Panettiere, and Vanessa Williams amongst others.

In 2010 Sue partnered with __________to create a fashion line to accompany and coincide with the release of the Julia Roberts film, EAT, PRAY, LOVE.

In 2011, Sue introduced her Talmadge line, licensing her designs with the Portuguese firm, ________ for the creation of her design of high end porcelain pens, credit card and eye-glass cases.

Sue Wong collections are sold in over 25 countries and throughout the United States at retailers, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macy's, Lord and Taylor, and specialty boutiques.
