Article Evaluation

Article I worked on: Theater District, Manhattan

My notes:

  • Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?
    • Yes everything in the article is relevant.
  • Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
    • The article stays neutral and just keeps to the facts.
  • Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
    • The only fact that is overrepresented is the location of the area.
  • Check a few citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article?
    • The links do work and do support the article.
  • Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted?
    • Yes the sources are reliable by unbiased sources from known publications  and authors
  • Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?
    • It is really out of date.  It does not really talk about any of the theaters that  are currently popular there .  It does not talk about the revival of Times Square.
  • Check out the Talk page of the article. What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?
    • The only thing that people are talking about is the way theater should be spelled...
    • Theater or Theatre
  • How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
    • Yes. It is apart of WikiProjects Theater, WikiProjects New York City, and WikiProjects Urban Studies and Planning.
  • Does the Wikipedia article achieve its rhetorical objective - to inform and educate audiences about a particular topic?
    • No because it is outdated and does not show talk about what the theater district is really like today.

Article Draft Proposal

edit

For my article edit, I am thinking about working on Theater District, Manhattan. I'm proposing to make the following changes.

  • To add more updated information.
    • In the article now there is a lot of outdated information about the theater district. I plan to add more reverent information on what the theater district in Manhattan has to offer, without sounding like a travel brochure.
  • To fix old information.
    • Information that is there now is not correct. Over time theaters have changed and the type of shows that are put on in Manhattan.
  • To maybe add a section on what theater/shows have been there just to add some more history and if a reader is reading it and sees a show, they recognize it will give them more of a connection.
  • Fix grammar and overused words
    • I did this in our other assignment "Add to an Article." However, there is always going to be more I can fix within writing. I plan to update some of the vocabularies within the article.

Vetter's Feedback: Hi Sam. Really great work on this proposal. I think you've target some specific old information that could be updated as well as a little bit of information that could be added. I like the idea of adding a section perhaps on notable shows throughout history? I would like to hear a little bit more about what else could be added. Your sources look great. The next step is going to be working through those sources to identify passages/pages that include information that could be added/updated to the current article. Great job on the proposal! We'll talk more tomorrow. -Dr. Vetter
