The history of Abeokuta Girls Grammar School

- the school was started as an effort from Anglican Missionaries. These missionaries called themselves the  Abeokuta District Church Council. The council was made up of Anglican Churches and the Stalwart Egba fathers that wanted better for the daughters of the community. They wanted to create a safe learning environment for the females of their community. When the school was first built it was called Anglican Girls' School. It was established in 1934, and put on the same grounds as the male school at the time which was called St. Peters school. At this time it was a small school with very little females in it but it began to grow very quickly once the word was spread once the school was too large for that area it was then moved to Iberekodo in 1948. When it was moved to Iberekodo it was then called a secondary modern school, which was one step upgraded from Anglican Girl's School

-In 1953 three sons wrote a memorandom for the school and had a ceremony to celebrate the success of the school. This ceremony brought about 500 people from around the area. The school then moved to it's final and current site and obtained the name Abeokuta Girls Grammar school.

-The school started with two blocks of four classrooms. Students began to take classes such as economics, clothing & textiles, also food and nutrition.

- The school that started with about 30 girls in it has now grown to the population of about 3,000.

This school was started as an effort from Anglican Missionaries. These missionaries called themselves the Abeokuta District Church Council. The council was made up of Anglican Churches and the Stalwart Elba fathers. These fathers wanted better for their daughters and for the community. Their goal was to create a safe learning environment for the females. When the school was first created it was known as the Anglican Girl's School. This was established in 1934, and was added to the grounds of the male school known as St. Peters school. During the beginning years it was a small school with a very small amount of females in it but once word was spread about the school it grew rapidly. The school soon became to large for the area in which it was built and it was moved to Iberekodo in 1948. When it was moved here it was known as "Secondary Modern School" which was one step upgraded from Anglican Girls School. The popularity of the school continued to grow. In 1953 three Egba sons Dr. Femi Oyewole, Dr. Dotun Oyewole and Dr. Adeyemi Ademola wrote the memorandum, which brought about the present school. After that a celebration was held for the school's success. Following this celebration the school was moved one final time and then became Abeokuta Girls Grammar School.

When the school was first built it started with two blocks of four classrooms. One building was held for the administration, the other for the girls classes. The students took classes such as economics, clothing and textiles, food, and nutrition. Although the school only began with about 30 girls it has now grown to a population of about 3,000. With the growing population many of the educational offerings grew as well. They opened up a library, chemistry and physics classes, and they are continuing their growth.
