Ghulam Rasul (1942-2009) Ghulam Rasul is well known for his impressions of Islamabad, its environs and the particular way of life of the area coloured by the austere beauty of the landscape and its nomadic heritage.

His paintings take their inspiration from a direct observation of nature. The use of a rich colour pallete brings a pictorial richness to his canvasses. The artist is famous for rustic scenes, urban settings with multi coloured kites interspersed in the sky, raindrops blurring the horizon, cattle out in the open fields etc. His paintings depict the endeavors in a life devoted to art that spanned over 40 years of love for his land and the landscape.

Early Life

edit

Ghulam Rasul was Born in 1942 in Jullunder.

Ghulam Rasul learnt the history and theory of art, and worked on the strength of his line as the basic requirement of art. He looked at the Pakistani landscape away from the cities and into the fields of grain and mustard and on the stretches of greens and yellows.

Ghulam Rasul whose paintings are part of many international collections, did his Master’s degree from Punjab University in Lahore in 1964 and later taught art and history at both Punjab University and Northern Illinois University USA.

His name is associated with paintings of Punjab’s landscapes, but his area of expertise was in printmaking. He also painted still life and calligraphy, as well as founding Flat Art in his early years of his career.

The artist was awarded President’s Award for Pride of Performance 1986.

He left behind him a rich collection of his life in December 2009.
