Hi my name is Sam Mulford and I am a student in Dr. Strassman's Poverty Justice and Human Capabilities course. I am a sophomore studying Psychology with a minor in the study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality. I'm interested in learning more about the consequences of class and racial inequalities, such as housing unaffordability, health system disparities, incarceration rates, and barriers to women's health services. 1) Eviction Crisis for Women
After reading Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, I’ve been interested in learning more about housing unaffordability and the way housing disproportionately impacts certain demographic groups. I want to research the alarmingly high rates of eviction for women and women of color, focusing on risk factors and consequences of housing instability. For my Wiki Topic, I would like to rewrite and add to an existing page titled “Eviction in the United States” under the section “Disproportionately Impacted Evictees.” Since the subsection “Women” is only a few sentences long, I would like to expand on this section, focusing on unpacking why women face disproportionate eviction rates and the enduring psychological effects of eviction for women.
