Du'a Tawassul (Arabic:دعاء التوسل) (Supplication of Tawassul) is an important supplication within the shia communities. It is a popular because of the benefits of the dua. The word (tawassul) means intercessions. In view of this, it can be translated as (The Supplication for seeking Intercession). The supplication is recited on weekly basis and serves as a way of creating link with the twelve Imams.

Two major books has reported this prayer:

1- The first one is through Shaykh Tusi in his book Misbah. It is reported that Imam Hassan al-Askari wrote this supplication for Abu Muhammad who requested from Imam to teach him the proper way to invoke Salawat (Salawat means invoking blessing of Allah upon the noble soul of Prophet Muhammad and his progeny).

2- Allama Majlisi has also mentioned it in his book under the authority of Ibn Babawayh

The dua contains the names of the twelve Imams. They are used as intercessors before Almighty God.

Manner of recitation

The prayer is usually recite either individually or in congregation. Mostly during Tuesday's night. The prayer can also be recited in other days different from Tuesday. It depends on the needs of individuals.

Benefit of the prayer

Some benefits of the supplication is mention below:

  1. The prayer is known as a good tool for removing all difficulties.
  2. It is known as "quick-fulfillment-of-all-legitimate-desires" dua.
  3. In the supplication,the merciful Allah is beseeched in the name of and for the sake of the Holy prophet Muhammad and his Ahlul Bayt. Hence,reciting the prayer brings about intimate relationship between the supplicant and Ahlul Bayt.
