Analysis of Article

edit

As I was reading about D.J. Shockley I felt like that the original Wikipedia article lacked in giving information about D.J. Patten. The introduction paragraph is to short and it does not give much description about who he is as a person. The article just told me that D.J. Shockley was born on March 23 1983 and he played college football at the University of Georgia and he played for the Atlanta Falcons.

I plan to inform you more about David Patten life before football and his football career.

Original Contribution

edit

When D.J. Shockley was a high school senior at North Clayton High School he earned the 2000 Today All-Second team award, he was a 2000 Parade Magazine All-American Team, Superprep Elite 50, All-American, and ranked as the top QB in the country. As a All State quarterback he threw for 1,861 yards and 11 touchdowns as a high school senior. He was getting recruited by all the major colleges across the nation, but when it came the signing day D.J. signed with the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

When he first arrived on campus in 2001 he did not play his freshman season so he redshirted. At the end of his freshman season during the spring he had a strong spring practice and he showed why he should start for the Bulldogs in the fall in 2002. In 2002 he earned the starting quarterback role in which he played in his first nine games and he missed the final four games with a foot injury in witch he suffered in the game against South Carolina. In his first year starting he broke many of the schools quarterback records and with him starting he helped the Bulldogs win there first South Eastern Conference (SEC) Championship, this was the school first time winning this in 20 years. Later on that year they beat Florida State in the Nokia Sugar Bowl and the Bulldogs where listed as the number three team in the nation. But to the start of the 2003 season he was moved back one spot on the depth chart to number two. Even though he was back up he played in six games before he injured his knee in which he was sidelined for the remainder or the season. Even though his knee injury held him to sit out some of the 2004 season D.J. was at an elite level in his final year at Georgia in 2005. He had started against Boise State that year and he tied the school touchdown record in that game with five touchdown passes and he also rushed for one touchdown. The whole 2005 season was great for D.J Shockley. He finished that year with the best career efficiency ranking for a quarterback, most touchdown passes with twenty-four, named first team all SEC, player of the week, and he received the 2005 Bobby Bowden Award.
