Location of Dzibanché in Mesoamerica

Dzibanché is a small archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. Dzibanché is located on the Yucatán Peninsula about 51 km west of Chetumal along Highway 186, and 25 km north of that road. Dzibanché is thought to have once been the core of a city (or a group of closely associated cities) that included the current-day ruins of Kinichná and Grupo (or Conjunto) Lamay to its west and north.

Rediscovered by Thomas Gann in 1927, named (Dzibanche = "writing on wood") after carvings on lintel beam.
