Kathleen B. Hogan graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1981. After completing her BA at St. Lawrence University in 1985, Hogan attended Washington and Lee University School of Law. Hogan obtained her law degree in 1988, and began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, NY. During her five years of service in the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, Hogan specialized in trial work, prosecuting rape, murder, and serious felony cases. From 1988-1993, Hogan successfully prosecuted all homicide cases that went to trial. By the end of her tenure at Kings County (Brooklyn) DA's office, Hogan tried more than 30 serious high-profile felonies.


In 1993, Hogan returned to upstate New York, entering private practice as a litigation associate with Fitzgerald, Morris, Baker, and Firth, P.C. From 1993-1997, she argued cases before the NYS Supreme Court and US District Court. Hogan returned to work as a prosecutor in 1997, however, when she accepted a position with the New York Prosecutors Training Institute, serving as a Senior Attorney. Notably, during her time with the New York Prosecutors Training Institute, Hogan was instrumental in assisting other NY District Attorneys in the preparation of briefs and memoranda of law in death penalty cases. She also trained and advised other District Attorneys on legal strategies in serious felony cases, including murder, sexual assault, domestic violence, and the uses of DNA evidence.


In 2000, Kate Hogan accepted a position as an Assistant District Attorney for Warren County, New York. Upon the retirement of the District Attorney, Hogan ran for and was elected Warren County District Attorney. She has served in this capacity from 2002 to the present, and is currently in her third term.


Warren County District Attorney (2002-Present)

While serving as Warren County District Attorney, Kate Hogan has successfully prosecuted several high-profile felony cases while simultaneously pursuing innovative community-based initiatives. In addition to the prosecution of numerous felonies, including rapes, murders, and domestic abuse cases, Hogan was responsible the Warren-Washington County Child Advocacy Center. The purpose of the Warren-Washington Child Advocacy Center is to provide help to victims of child abuse by combining legal, medical, and mental health resources to collaborate in the protection of victims in the community. Hogan created the CAC through public and private grants, and its funding has not come from local taxpayers. The Warren-Washington CAC stands as a model of public-private cooperation in the protection and enhancement of the community. Likewise, Hogan has championed domestic and child abuse victims rights in other ways, currently serving on the District Attorney's Association and Sub-Committee on Sexual Assault and Family Violence. Hogan continues to advocate for new legislation to permit more comprehensive prosecution of child abuse.[1] [2]

Hogan was also instrumental in the creation of the Warren County Drug Treatment Court. She created a county-wide task force of concerned citizens to combat underage drinking. Similarly, Hogan has worked closely with local schools, parents, and community resources to create Communities That Care, to combat drugs and violence. She has spoken in numerous local high schools, receiving gratitude from parents for the efficacy of her efforts. Hogan has been committed to fighting DWI crimes, and secured grants to fund a special DWI prosecutor and two investigators for the regional drug task force. In addition, Hogan worked tirelessly for the passage of NYS's Leandra's Law. When the law was passed in November 2009, it became an automatic felony to drive drunk with a person 15 or younger in the vehicle. Additionally, Hogan successfully advocated for Jack Shea's Law, which closed a loophole in the investigation of suspected drunk drivers. The law was signed into effect in July 2010.

Kate Hogan has also worked as a special prosecutor in cases in Saratoga, Essex, Washington, and Franklin Counties.

Special Committees and Organizations From 2009-2010, Hogan served as the President of the District Attorney's Association in NYS, which enabled to pursue important legislative initiatives. She currently serves on the Association's Executive Committee. Hogan also serves on Chief Judge Lippman's Justice Task Force, the Sentencing Commission, and Children's Justice Task Force. In addition, Hogan was part of the Commission of the Jury(appointed 2003 by Judge Kaye); co-chairman, NYS Law Enforcement Council; Warren County Bar Association; Adirondack Women's Bar Association; NYS Arson Board (appointed by Governor Pataki.)

Personal Life Kate Hogan currently resides in Glens Falls, NY with her husband and three children. After a breast cancer scare,Hogan has been an advocate for breast cancer awareness, and has spearheaded the creation of the Helping Hands project for cancer patients at Glens Falls Hospital. In 2007, she was selected by the Hudson Falls Central School District for their Wall of Distinction, which recognizes distinguished alumni. [4]
