Intean Poalroath Rongroeurng (IPR) is a micro finance institution (MFI) based in the Kindom of Cambodia.


History

Established and granted a MFI license in 2005. In July 2008, the Company’s license was renewed by the National Bank of Cambodia and given permanent status. The Company was created by Mr. Phou Puy and Mrs. Hao Simorn in response to capital constraints faced by the Federation of Cambodian Rice Millers Association. Mr. Phou Puy is a prominent Battambang entrepreneur, who has a successful history in the rice business in NW Cambodia and is currently building the largest rice mill in Cambodia.


Operations

IPR provides individual loans to small businesses and small agricultural concerns primarily in rural areas of Cambodia. IPR is more oriented towards agriculture than other MFIs who focus more on small merchants, albeit in rural areas. IPR offers working loans of 0-12 months and investment loans from 12-24 months. IPR operates in 6 provinces in Cambodia, with its main branch office in Phnom Penh. The Company as of July 2009 had customer loans outstanding of US$3.6 million and borrowed loans of US$1.45 million.

IPR has experienced rapid growth recently, and is currently positioned as one of the top 10 MFI’s in Cambodia with a market share of approximately 5% of the total Cambodian MFI market.
