Jason Shawn Alexander (B. 1975) is an Internationally respected painter, illustrator, draftsman, and storyteller from Tennessee.
Noted for his raw and fervent style, Jason's paintings provoke the viewer. In his words, "I've had no formal art education. I don't understand or care for labels or 'isms' of any kind. The one true goal I have is to be as honest and emotive as I can with my painting. Art should first and foremost move the viewer and you can't do that by merely working on the surface. Real honesty in your work is frightening but also, unmistakable."
Recognized by his peers, he is a Silver Medal Award recipient from the Society of Illustrators-Los Angeles as well as a nominee for two Eisner Awards. Not at all surprising to those who have seen Jason's work as Brad Martin, contributing writer for Juxtapoz Magazine, eloquently explains on his weblog, "his gritty, drippy, and dark style lends an ominous air, like a fresh grave, and the subject’s poses humanize the whole thing. This is the whole package." In addition to commissioned and original paintings, he has produced illustrations for Dark Horse Comics, Warner Brothers, DC Comics, Hasboro, White Wolf, Inc, and Dalmatian Press.
Recently, Jason completed his first screenplay and has begun writing and directing his second short film.
He currently resides and works in Los Angeles, California.
