Medically unexplained symptoms edit

Some MEDRS from peer-review journals edit

"Medically unexplained symptoms" is not new, it is not a "Trojan Horse" it has different meanings for different people there is not "Medically unexplained symptoms" and "medically unexplained symptoms." Some people say it means somatization, some people say it overlaps, people say medically unexplained syndrome and constellation of medically unexplained symptoms and medically unexplained illness and also "medically unexplained" it is so obvious, it means some thing is not explained medically, it is not complicated.

The most cited paper ever on Chronic fatigue syndrome, Fukuda et al 1994 has "medically unexplained symptoms" in the first point about what a doctor should get in patient's history.

Earlier then Fukuda et al [1] Is from 1992, on chronic fatigue syndrome criteria, it says "medically unexplained physical symptoms" or "medically unexplained somatic symptoms" 12 times. 95 citations

Meta analytic review[2] of 244 MUPS (medically unexplained physical symptoms) studies, including "four functional somatic syndromes for which there were sufficient numbers for meta-analytic integration: irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nonulcer dyspepsia (NUD), fibromyalgia (FM), and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)." and "Meta-analytic integration confirms that the four functional somatic syndromes (IBS, NUD, FM, CFS) are related to (but not fully dependent on) depression and anxiety. At present, there is only limited meta-analytic evidence for the same sort of association for medically unexplained physical symptoms in general." 193 citations

BMJ editorial[3] "Treating medically unexplained physical symptoms" 60 citations

[4] AJM 1995 45 citations

[5] "To overcome the confusion around the term ‘somatisation’, many researchers prefer the term ‘medically unexplained symptoms (MUPS)’" Figure 1 shows CFS as one of five functional symptom groupings and CFS is also in the text. 59 citations

[6] Abstract "Medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS) are persistent idiopathic symptoms that drive patients to seek medical care. MUPS syndromes include chronic fatigue syndrome" 36 citations

[7] 72 citations

[8] "The article is a narrative review of the theoretical standing and empirical evidence for the cognitive behavioural model of medically unexplained symptoms (MUS) in general and for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in particular." 16 citations
