Southeastern Institute of Technology

edit

Southeastern Institute of Technology (SIT) was formed in 1976 as a private, not-for-profit educational organization. Located in Huntsville, Alabama, SIT received the 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service in 1977, and was also "fully approved" and licensed by the Alabama Department of Education that same year.

The organizational purpose of SIT was to provide professional-level continuing education and graduate-level programs leading to the Master's degree or the Doctorate in the fields of engineering, applied science, and management. An affiliate, the Center for Applied Research, was a vehicle for classified contract efforts.

All instruction was conducted in classroom and laboratory style by professional practitioners from industrial firms and governmental agencies. Most of the instructors held doctoral degrees and many were previously on university faculties. While access was available to the local Redstone Scientific Information Center, one of the nation's largest technical libraries, SIT itself developed a library of about 10,000 volumes and hundreds of journal/periodical collections.

Information concening programs, students, and recognition / accreditation will be posted on Wikipedia at a later date.

As of 2004, SIT no longer admits new students or offers classroom courses; many students, however, are still completing requirements for degrees, mainly through the necessary master's project or dissertation research.
