The 1978–79 CONCACAF Champions Cup was the 15th edition of the tournament. It was the first tournament that allowed for nations to submit champions and runners-up. The New York Cosmos defeated Comunicaciones in the final, becoming the first American team to win the tournament.
Qualified teams
editTwelve league champions that agreed to participate qualified for the group stage. The eight runners-up that participated played in a two-leg playoff to qualify for group stage.
