The 1961–62 CONCACAF Champions Cup was the inaugural competition of the tournament. The original tournament was open to any league champion or runner-up in the CONCACAF region. Eight teams from eight nations, Netherlands Antilles, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico and the United States, participated.
Guadalajara of Mexico won the inaugural competition, beating Comunicaciones in the final.
