This article lists potential candidates for the Democratic nomination for Vice President of the United States in the 2024 presidential election. President Joe Biden, the presumptive 2024 Democratic nominee for President of the United States, has been pressured by Democrats to suspend his re-election campaign amidst growing concerns about his age and health. Should Biden drop out, pundits and Democratic officials have speculated that Vice President Kamala Harris would assume the nomination, leaving the position of running mate open.[1][2]

editOn July 18, The Hill reported that internal Democratic strategists narrowed down a shortlist of running mates for Kamala Harris to three potential candidates.[2]

Media speculation on possible candidates
editSpeculation by news agencies and Kamala Harris' allies has mostly centered on nominating a white man as running mate, demographically balancing out Harris, who is an African and Indian American woman. Internal documents written by senior Democratic operatives explicitly named Governors Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania as potential running mates.[3] On July 19, Representative Betty McCollum called on Joe Biden to drop out, endorsing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and suggesting Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota for her running mate.[4]
