Heysham Heritage Centre is in the village of Heysham, Lancashire, England. Situated on Main Street, Heysham, the Heritage Centre is a rare, village-based example of a 17th. Century Lancashire long house (cottage and adjoining barn). Heysham Heritage Centre was formerly the barn for the adjoining farmhouse cottage and the buildings are being restored. The Centre, which is open to the public, is owned by the Heritage Trust for the North West [1] (registered charity no. 508300) and is run by the members and volunteers of Heysham Heritage Association. In the 20th. Century, the long house was converted into a cottage and two lock up shops, No. 22, 24, 26 Main Street. Heritage Trust for the North West acquired the two lock up shops in 1999, and converted them, with grant aid from many organisations and individuals, to form a small Heritage Centre for Heysham Village.
The Centre was opened in 2000, and by 2010 had been visited by over 100,000 people, exceeding all expectations. It is run entirely by dedicated volunteers from Heysham Heritage Association. Heysham Heritage Association (HHA) is an independent organisation of people who care for Heysham.
In 2002, Heritage Trust for the North West obtained the adjoining cottage, and this is now being restored. While the restoration work is underway, the cottage and barn are on display to visitors as an archaeological heritage site.
