Pierre Mortier (April 9, 1865 - July 19, 1949) was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France. He was a journalist and avid sportsman with a particular fondness and expertise in epee. Old footage of Mortier dueling over Marie Curie can still be found.

He married his second wife, Helene Dutrieu (1877 - 1961) in 1922; Dutrieu was an early and notable female aviator from Belgium as well as accomplished stuntwomen and bicycle racer. Mortier was survived by two children from his first marriage, Klutch and Anne-Marie Mortier.

Mortier also claimed as friends French critic Henry Gauthier-Villars from his journalism profession, and at whose funeral he spoke, and legendary tire manufacturer Edouard Michelin who was from his home town of Clermont-Ferrand.
