Indian Currency Sign

Symbol of Indian rupee - a graphic symbol of the national currency Indian approved by the Government 15 July 2010 year. It is a cross at the top of the letter (pa,ra,ṛa or rha) Devanagari, a form of Indian writing used in several official and local languages of India.

Within two years, the Indian authorities are planning to include the main character in the standard collection, in particular, in the standard Unicode. The author of the sign is Uday Kumar, a student of the Indian Polytechnic Institute in Mumbai, has received as a reward of 250 rupees (about $ 5,5 thousand). [2]

Currently, the new symbol of the Indian rupee is available in the font «Rupakara» (Rupakara), created by Michael Everson.

Symbol Rs (Rp) edit

Another feature is thatRs - the reduction only for the plural (fromrupees):Rs.2 (two rupees),Rs.5 (five rupees), etc. The reduction for the singular (rupee) -Re. (Re.1), <ref> Press Release Reserve Bank of India on the issue of commemorative coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 75 rupees </ ref> does not have its own Unicode.
