My name is Matthew J. James and I am a professor of paleontology and geology at Sonoma State University in northern California. I write about the history of the Galápagos Islands, particularly the 1905-06 expedition from the California Academy of Sciences. I have conducted oral history interviews with nearly all of the former directors of the Charles Darwin Research Station at Academy Bay on Isla Santa Cruz. I maintain an archive of other oral histories of long-term residents, colonos, and others associated with the scientific and human history of Galápagos.
