Now you know what the Tt in his register book number means.

Race results edit

  • all contemporary race results are the calculated time for a kilometre
  • don't be fooled by the decimal comma; 1:20,9 = 1:20.9

  • a stands for autolähtö or car start; the horses start from behind a mobile starting gate
  • "no a" means that the start was a volttilähtö, where the horses are driven in small circles to form the starting lines.
  • m stands for a monté start

  • ly stands for lyhyt, a short run: 1609 m or less
  • ke stands for keskimatka, a mid-length run: 1610-2099 m

Random terminology edit

  • Suurjuoksija, "grand runner" - a Finnhorse whose personal record is under 1:40.0 [1]
  • Huippujuoksija, "top runner" - a Finnhorse whose personal record is under 1:35.0 [1]
  • Tähtijuoksija, "star runner" - a Finnhorse whose personal record is under 1:30.0. A great acheivement a few decades ago, but today it's nothing too fancy as almost any "proper" level heat gets to this level, and about 200 new ones are made each year. See some refs (within quite a short while even) to get what I mean. All times are per one km, "for XXX €" refers to winnings.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
  • Valiojuoksija, "champion runner" - a Finnhorse whose personal record is under 1:25.0.[8][1].
  • Superjuoksija, "Lordy! That's fast!" - a Finnhorse whose personal record is under 1:20.0. Currently (checked as of 2.3.2010) only three horses have acheived this: Viesker (19.9), Rick (19.6) and Sipori (19.4)[9].

The contemporary stud book and registration number system edit

Finnhorses have been registered since 1971. This means practically making a list of all Finnhorses and their information, and has nothing to do with breedability. At first horses could be registered after the birth year as well, so some horses born before 1971 can be found from the register.

The first numbers
  • From 1971 to 1975 the numbers started every year from 1
  • Since 1975 the numbers have started every year from 1001
The two last numbers, separated by a -
  • They stand for the registration year of the horse
  • From 1985 this has automatically the year the horse was born in
Letters after the two last numbers
  • The modern registry system means no horse has separate registration and studbook numbers anymore
  • If the horse has a letter after the last two numbers of its registration number, it has been accepted into the studbook
  • J = juoksijasuunta; trotter section
  • T = työhevossuunta; working horse section
  • R = ratsuhevossuunta; riding horse section
  • P = pienhevossuunta; pony-sized section
  • Horses can and have been accepted for multiple sections; Lennon Poika 1847-90PTR[10] is qualified for three sections
Additional letters
  • Additional letters stand for prizes given for great offspring:
  • V = Valio, "champion" = deemed a champion for great offspring
  • AA = deemed a champion for offspring post mortem
  • P = prize given for good offspring
  • H = accepted into the studbook by good offspring
