Henry St John, 5th Viscount Bolingbroke, 6th Viscount St John (1820–1899)

He met Ellen Medex while on a visit to London. The family did not approve of the relation and the couple eloped to Holland. Returning to London they lived a nomadic life and despite having a family seat at Lydiard Park the couple chose to living at a variety of addresses under assumed names. They had several children, but there is no sign of them having married.

While Ellen remained in London made occasional visits to Lydiard Park, engaging housekeeper Mary Elizabeth Emily Howard who lived on teh estate. Ostensibly the cook/housekeeper while at Lydiard, the Mary Howard was also his lover and they co-habited at a house in Bath.
