Central Alabama SAR Central Alabama SAR was formed in 2011 as a specialized Search & Rescue unit. Formerly Walker County Rescue, it was established in 1965 as a Civil Defense Squad. Over the years Walker County Rescue provided many services to the citizens of Walker County in Alabama. In 2005 the need for the squad's extrication equipment began to decline as more and more local fire departments began to obtain the necessary equipment. The squad then began to specialize in Search & Rescue including SAR K-9's, a public safety Dive Team, trained ground search teams, and a rope rescue team.
