The Phoenix Papers is a website created by J S Haythornthwaite as part of a final portfolio for the Creative Writing BA course at Roehampton University.
It is a work of hyperfiction exploring a fictional underground fantasy world based on our own.
The website has been designed so that, after it has been marked as coursework, other writers can collaborate and contribute to the world by writing short stories under 'agent codename's.
Using visitor information from the website's usage summary pages, the prospective author can pitch their existing web work to a potential publisher or agent, giving statistical evidence of their work's popularity and existing fan base. It allows an inexperienced writer the space to experiment with, and get a clear sense of the reception of, new narrative structures, characters and writing styles.
