SHERWIN SOZON

SHERWIN SOZON is a businessman, classical singer and theater artist in the Philippines. Though he treats his performances mainly as a hobby, his performances are both noteworthy and newsworthy.

BACKGROUND Sherwin's full name is Sherwin Kaw Sozon. He is of Chinese descent. He received his High School diploma at Saint Jude Catholic School in 1987. He finished his undergraduate course (BS - Manufacturing Engineering and Management) at De La Salle University, and his graduate course (MBA-Regis) at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.

CLASSICAL SINGING Sherwin started taking serious classical voice lessons in 2006 with the Philippines' Poet of Songs - Maestro Mamerto Villaba. He had his first formal voice recital in 2007 at the BDO Twin Towers in Makati. Of his recital, internationally awarded critic and essayist Ms Rosalinda Orosa wrote: "a firm, ringing, forceful voice, interpretive ability and control of volume" (Nov 3, 2007, Sundry Strokes by Rosalinda Orosa, Philippine Star)

He was a featured classical singer in the Management Association of the Philippines' "Adeste Fideles" at the Philippine International Convention Center in 2008. The concert featured the Madrigal Singers, Manila Community Orchestra, as well as some of the well-known and best classical singers from the Philippines: Nolyn Cabahug, Abdul Candao, Randy Gilongo, George Yang, Rachelle Gerodias, Jennifer Uy, Elaine Lee, and others.

His first opera is the last work of National Artist Lucrecia "Tita King" Kasilag. Staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He played the role of Rayo, the sun king.

An erstwhile member of the Philippine Opera Company, Sherwin is an original member of its Philippine culture arm - Harana.

Sherwin is the president of the Philippine Organization of Classical Singers.

THEATER Sherwin is best known for his portrayal of Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino in the musical "Cory!" opposite Miss Saigon's original Gigi - Isay Alvarez. The musical, directed by Palanca awardee Nestor U. Torre and produced by Bing Pimentel's Music Foundation . Sherwin received rave reviews for this portrayal of the assassinated senator. This is the second time Sherwin has worked with Nestor Torre, the first being his portrayal of Bryan Fong in the Tsinoy musical : "Tsinoy: Kaisa Ka!".

He also played Mr. Madrigal in the 2010 restaging of the hit 80's musical "Magsimula Ka!".
