Phil Stubbins' (born 18 October 1962) is a former football (soccer) Attacking Midfielder from Hull, England, who migrated to Australia and played for various top tier Australian National League clubs, as well as holding spells in Asia.[1]

Stubbins versatility as a sportsman is also evident as he secured his professional golf card to the PGA tour of Australasia in 1993, where he led the field on day one with a 5 under par 68. [2]

He retired as a football player in 2001 and continued his coaching career which he had already started as a player/manager in 1994. Stubbins successfully claiming many Championships with various Australian clubs.

His second spell in club management came when he took up the option to build an entirely new club with the local Melbourne businessman, Sam Cuteri. Whittlesea Stallions was born.The club immediately securing two successive Championships. Stubbins then took up the reigns with former National Soccer League heavyweights Heidelberg United. The club winning an immediate Championship and promotion.

Prior to signing a contract with Adelaide United as first team coach in 2007 Stubbins was to accept an offer to try and rescue bottom placed Richmond SC of the Victorian Premier League away from relegation. He completed the task effectively by winning eight (8) of the clubs remaining twelve (12) games of the season and to safety. Stubbins was named Coach of the Year in 2005.

Stubbins then helped Adelaide United to an Asian Champions League Final in 2008 against Japanese Champions Gamba Osaka, as well also participating in the World Club Cup in Tokyo of the same year with Manchester United the eventual winners.[3]

Stubbins has a vast array of coaching experience against the top Asian teams via successful ventures in the Asian Champions League where he is noted for his attention to detail. He has also worked with various Australian National youth team's and was in charge for a period as the interim Head Coach with the renowned Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, Australia. [4]
